We want to be sure to give you the platform to share your ideas in a variety of ways. So, IMI YLC incorporated a Poster Session and Essay Competition--with many prizes including travel grants to IMI's 8th International Conference in Iran, representing IMI at the United Nations, free hotel rooms and more!
Given that many of our young leaders reuqested extensions, IMI YLC's Essay competition has been extented FOR SPECIFIC TOPICS ONLY. Please be sure to review the complete guidelines and information for the contest.

IMI YLC Showcasing Young Leaders Contests
Showcasing Young Leaders is designed to allow our Leaders of tomorrow to display, share and celebrate their work as well as to help others learn how to promote professional/academic success and community engagement. IMI YLC incorporates opportunities to do so through both written and visual media:
IMIYLC Poster Session
The top 20 abstracts will be selected by review teams for special presentations. The 12 "Outstanding" abstracts will be placed on the program for engagement during Showcasing Young Leaders. The “Best” 3 posters out of these will be highlighted during the Closing Dinner. Each author will be given 5 minutes to present.
Eligibility
In order to be considered the following criteria must be met:

The abstract must be on one of the following topics:
-
Pitch a project: present your idea for a new IMI US/IMI Canada project/program.
-
Giving Back: Highlighting your current endeavors or ideas for social improvements and/or community engagement.
-
Goals, Motivations and/or Overcoming Challenges in achieving professional/personal success.
-
Health & Medicine: Basic Sciences, Case Studies/Clinical Vignettes, Health Policy.
-

The abstract may not exceed 500 words.
-
Each presenter must be a registered for IMI’s First North American Young Leaders’ Conference (IMI YLC) at the time of submission and in attendance at IMIYLC.
A poster session is designed to permit the author to explain and illustrate his/her project, concepts, techniques or research findings in a manner that will promote understanding more readily than does a "rapid fire" podium address. Authors must be present during the entire session, which will be moderated.
Format
-
Each poster presenter is required to pre-submit two slides (one data & one summary) to be shown during their 1-minute presentation.
-
The first 15 minutes of the 60-minute session will be for poster viewing. Roving facilitators will ask clarification questions of the presenters while they stand by their posters.
-
During the next 40 minutes each presenter will have 1 minute to present and 2 minutes for discussion.
-
The Facilitators will provide a 5-minute summary of the session at the conclusion of the session.
Presentation Schedules
12:30 – 1 p.m.
Installation of posters in room/area (while participants get boxed lunches)
1 – 1:15 p.m.
Presenters stand by posters while roving moderators ask questions
1:15 – 1:55 p.m.
1-minute presentation followed by a 2-minute question and answer period
1:55 – 2 p.m.

IMIYLC Essay Competition
In the essay competition, the top 5 entries (one for each topic) will be selected for special recognition during the Opening Banquet Dinner where authors will receive prizes.
In order to be considered the following guidelines must be followed so it is in your best interest to read everything before beginning the writing process.
Eligibility

Each author must be a registered for IMI’s First North American Young Leaders’ Conference (IMI YLC) at the time of submission and in attendance at IMIYLC.
-
Each author must be no more than 35 years of age.
-
Submissions must be received by 11:59 PM EST on December 15, 2014.
Format
-
Essay Cover Page: The cover page should display the title of the essay, author’s name, contact information, Group information, topic choice and contain a signed statement of the originality of the contribution. Information on the author(s) should ONLY be presented on the cover page and NOT on the main text pages. View the attached template here.

Essay Word Limit:
-
For Group A: the main text should contain between 500 to 750 words, not counting notes and reference lists (if applicable). If used, sources should be cited consistently throughout the essay.

For Groups B & C: the main text should contain between 500 to 1,000 words, not counting notes and reference lists (if applicable). If used, sources should be cited consistently.

Essay Margins and Spacing Requirement: The format should be in Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1 inch/2.5 centimeter margins.
-
Essay Document and Page Formatting: The submission should be Microsoft Word .doc or .docx format.
-
Essay Language: Essays can be submitted in English only.

Education | Reflect on education, one of the most fundamental community & global issues, and explore the related needs, challenges and solutions for our community in North America.

Science Medicine & Technology | The Imams’ Contributions to Science, Technology and Medicine: Integrating our Authentic Text with Modern Scientific Research

Diplomacy & Advocacy | Given the current geopolitical realities, what should our community’s role and position be in global and national political contexts; today and 10 years from now.

Ethics | What are the Roles & Responsibilities of Shia Professionals in the aucultation of the Imam. Explore challenges & their solutions in diverse societies.
